A new system for taxing car benefits started on 6 April 2002. The charge on the benefit of a company car will still be calculated as a percentage of the price of the car (normally list price). But the percentage will be graduated according to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and the adjustments for business mileage (including those for second cars), and older cars will not apply.
